Challenges
As a former retail service station, the site had numerous underground tanks and utility lines, as well as a partial building and foundation slated for removal. Once the project commenced, MES’s crews discovered several underground fuel tanks that the customer had not been previously aware of, commonly referred to as “ghost” tanks. For a job of this size and with such vast requirements, communication between MES teams, the customer, and various government regulatory agencies was key.
Process
While at the site, MES’s expert team completed a number of objectives to get the site up to code for future building projects. With the goal of complete site remediation in mind, this project required MES to call on all its service departments.
Our industry experience and relationships with regulatory agencies made for a smooth process. Working with the NYC Department of Buildings and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, MES was able to complete the remediation, removal of underground storage tanks, and site cleanup in 45 days.
